Art Law & Cultural Property LawIntroduction Art Law and Cultural Property Law are now recognised as specialist areas of both study and practice. The Institute of Art and Law was founded in 1995 as an independent organisation with the aim of providing both lawyers and non-lawyers with access to information about these areas in the form of seminars, publications and distance learning courses. The law impinges on the work of art market and museum professionals on a day-to-day basis and a grasp of the relevant legal principles is essential. National laws relating to art and cultural property cannot be treated in isolation as the cross-border nature of the art world means that foreign domestic laws as well as the relevant European and International Conventions will often need to be consulted.
